Projects

I created a Word Art piece with a person including Zora Neale Hurston’s insightful glossary terms full of Harlem Slang. I used pastel font color to make more engaging and aesthetics. I found the picture (background) on google, it is taken from one of the neighborhoods in Harlem, New York.
Audience:
• My target Audience is Gen Z. In general, same as my age. For this creative piece “Silly words yet so powerful”, I feel that it is thoughtful to share how slangs is not a new thing as it existed in decades and it is been part of Harlem’s cultural identity.
Tone & Purpose:
• My tone is somewhat “Humorous” as I mentioned about how silly the words are but has powerful meaning behind it
• The purpose of the piece i made is to show how language typically a word that plays a major role to someone or group of people’s Identity. Another purpose I am aiming is to let my audience know that language is not about formality, it is about how it is used to make connection and communicating purposes.
Genre & Medium:
• The genre is Visuals & Word Art.
• The medium is it made digitally.
Stance & Language:
• My stance is kind of objective, I put all the slang words together with a shape looking like a person to exhibits how it represent someone’s identity (specifically people in Harlem)
• My language is indirect, I put all the term without the definition behind it.
Constraints:
• Some people might demand about putting all the definitions to the slangs I included so that they would know what the meaning behind of it.
Zora Neale Hurston ≠ Nick Andrei Vicencio
In conclusion, there is also a difference in terms of:
Audience – white people ≠ teenagers (Gen Z).
Tone – Absurd, Sarcastic, & Provocative ≠ Humorous
Genre – Fiction ≠ Visual Art
Medium – Electronically Scanned from book ≠ Digitally made on Microsoft Word
Language – Passionate ≠ Indirect
Overall, Zora Neale Hurston and I share the same idea about certain rhetorical terms. Same purpose of exhibiting and letting the audience know the importance of language in form of communication by presenting the cultural background & Identity behind it. Also, the constraints about making the people misunderstand the purpose of the context.
